SOUND THE ALARMS! We are open! The Green Lakes State Park Pollinator Garden has been opened to the public where hikers and campers can feast their eyes, located where the three trails meet. After two harsh winters and hungry animals, we made it! We were so happy to see all the bees already making themselves at home!
It was a beautiful day on Saturday, September 21. To be honest, this was a day I didn't think would happen! For two years after I initially made this website and posted a video on it (YouTube channel promo? Sneaky, Nandika... very sneaky), I was mostly caught up with school and other things that happen in life. Time really does fly, and nature me very sad because all those plants I worked so hard to plant had either died during the two winters that had passed, or got gobbled by hungry deer! My theory was proven correct! Plants really do die the minute I touch them! But all thanks to the hard work of Peter, we got a lot more stuff from the nursery, replanted them, and moved them to our beautiful little triangular patch of land that meets up at the three trails which made up the garden. And wow, it is so gorgeous that I almost cried the minute I saw it. We had a little inauguration on Saturday morning which consisted of me, Peter, Tom, my parents, my baby sister, a lovely lady who worked in the education sector of Green Lakes, and my amazing principal, Ms. O'Brien. Peter and Tom cut the ribbon, and we put some signs up! Now there are pamphlets available in the Ed Center of Green Lakes, and this is forever cemented as a Girl Scouts project. What was really cool? It was opened on the week of Girl Scouts Love New York State Parks Day! A few snaps from the day...
